About me
Hello, welcome to my portfolio webpage. My name is Dakotah Shaw, I am an art student at CHSN, and I hope to have a career in art. Ever since I was a little girl, art has always been apart of my life. My mom used to study art in college, because of this I used to watch my mom work on her projects. I thought about how amazing it is for a person to create something beautiful out of something that was once blank. In elementary school I loved art so much that I would miss lunch to go to the art class and paint, or draw. Middle school was when I got to experiment more with art and its tools. I really enjoyed one art project in middle school where we had to paint a flower from observation. It was really interesting to try to find the right blend of colors, or how to make shadows. Finally in high school I got to broaden my skills more. I took Studio Art, Drawing and Painting, half a year of Art 4, and Darkroom Photography. I love to draw, but the issue with my drawings and the idea of how you're "supposed" to draw is different (so I've been told). I feel as if my drawings are more expressive and unusual. Someday I hope to be an Art Therapist, but before that I want to travel. Right now I really enjoy Photography because it feels more accomplishing when my film gets developed right, or when my picture comes out perfectly. I have some photos that I've made using my drawings too. The more I think about photography and my drawings the more I want to be a photographer before becoming an art therapist. If I was a photographer I would love to photograph areas like Alaska where the Northern Lights are, or Death Valley where the Milky Way is really visible at night. To me art is about expressing yourself. Art isn't perfect lines, or realistic drawings, its about enjoying what you do and how you do it. If your work appeals to you then don't let anyone change your mind. There is no way to perfectly teach art. There is no way to perfectly define art. I like my work and that's how it will stay for me. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I hope you enjoy my work.
